Meet the Sisters

Why did you pledge Sigma?: I knew that I wanted to pledge a sorority when I saw how much my older brother enjoyed Greek Life. I saw how close he and his fraternity brothers got over the years, and I knew that was something I wanted. Once I got to Emerson, I wasn't totally sure and wanted to get in to the swing of things before making a commitment. Once I started the Fall 2014 semester, I already knew a couple girls in Sigma who I thought were really cool, and they encouraged me to go to the rush events. I agreed, talked to more of the sisters, and knew I wanted to be a part of Sigma.
What's your favorite thing about being a Sigma?: My favorite thing about being a Sigma is that I have made lifelong friends that I know I can count on for anything.
What's your favorite Sigma memory?: All the adventures and study sessions with my pledge sisters, meeting my incredible Big, and Brynna whistling in the bathroom on cross night

Why did you pledge Sigma?: I had honestly never considered Greek life before college. It wasn't until I joined Emerson Urban Dance Theatre in the Spring of 2014 that I seriously researched Emerson's Greek organizations, because all of the girls in the tap company at the time were involved in one sorority or fraternity or another. As I grew closer with them, I became more interested in what Greek life could offer me. Looking at every organization's website, Sigma spoke to me the most, and when I went to the first rush event this fall I knew that I was in the perfect place. I had found my home.
What's your favorite thing about being a Sigma?: Knowing that I have a huge support system behind me, and being that support for others. I also love that Sigma has given me the gift of wonderful sisters and lifelong friends!
What's your favorite Sigma memory?: Study dates and cuddle fests with my pledge sisters. And dance parties within those study sessions. "Yo? Yo." Our group text at one in the morning. Having my beautiful Big, Sam, revealed to me and going on a pizza date! And bonding over Johnny Cash.

Why did you pledge Sigma?: I always really wanted to go out for a Greek Org but never felt like I had the time to do so. After traveling for a semester I learned that I was able to juggle everything that I put on my plate, and I decided to go out for Sigma. I chose Sigma because I felt like I would fit best with them!
What's your favorite thing about being a Sigma?: The undying love and support that has been washing over me in waves since crossing.
What's your favorite Sigma memory?: There are so many, but probably being bombarded with questions about a veggie platter after being awake for WAY too long!

Why did you pledge Sigma?: I've always been hesitant about greek life being from a small town in the south that is notorious for hazing and cattiness. But then I found Sigma and I thought that maybe not all greek life was like that. And I was right. Sigma is a loving, caring, supportive and amazing group of women. Everyone truly cares about each other and the success of others. And I love that, the genuine and loving group that is Sigma.
What is your favorite thing about being a Sigma?: The laughter and jokes, the good times and the bad times, everything really. But more so that we can all experience these aspects of life together and grow and support each other.
What is your favorite Sigma memory?: Can I even pick one? I don't think so. Everything from pledging to being a part of Sigma has been amazing. Late nights at the max, sleepovers, the food conversations, there is no way to chose what sticks out as a favorite. Everyone is a gem and that makes every memory sparkle.

Why did you pledge Sigma?: I didn’t have a lot of friends freshman year and I knew that I needed a more. I wanted to be a part of a group of people that would love and support each other without hesitation.
What is your favorite thing about being a Sigma?: Knowing that I have a huge group of people that I can call at a moment’s notice and they will be there with whatever I need whether that be tissues, ice cream, or just a good time.
What's your favorite Sigma memory?: Late night Max runs, all the inside jokes, Shrek themed sleepovers (Frankly there’s no one memory that’s my favorite. Just like everyone else in the sisterhood I think almost every time I spend with each other becomes a favorite memory).

Why did you pledge Sigma? : I pledged Sigma because I had been looking for a “home” on campus. The ladies in Sigma all seemed really welcoming and that was an environment I missed that I had in high school. I also just happened to meet my big and grand-big at the Org Fair and they really convinced me to come out for it.
What's your favorite thing about being a Sigma?: My favorite thing about being a Sigma is the endless amount of love and support I feel from my sisters. They’re some of the most inspiring, incredible people I’ve ever met and I love them all so much already.
What is your favorite Sigma memory?: My favorite memory would probably be all of Pledge Class 61’s dates at the Max. I also loved singing along to Disney movies at our sleepovers and getting so deliriously tired that we wouldn’t make sense. Honestly, everything I do with my pledge sisters is hysterical and wonderful.

Why did you pledge Sigma?: When I came to Emerson I really wasn’t looking into FSL. My best friend/roommate was interested in going to recruitment for another organization and I decided to look into organizations. Sigma seemed like a wonderful organization, but it wasn’t until one of the sisters reached out to me about it that I seriously considered it. I never thought of myself as a sorority girl, but I fell in love with the sisters of Sigma during recruitment week. I felt like I had found my place and had found a true family.
What's your favorite thing about being a Sigma?: The incredible support and love that all of my sisters have for one another. I love how we can stay up all night talking and laughing, and I love my wonderful, wonderful big!
What's your favorite Sigma memory?: All the late night mozzarella sticks, our first sleepover where Jenna spilled rice everywhere, Sally being savage, staying up until 7:30 in the morning and crying from laughing so hard, all of our inside jokes, the Big/Little reveal and so many more.

Why did you pledge Sigma?: I was not looking into FSL at all when I came to Emerson. I kept hearing about all the great things FSL has to offer and decided to check it out. I was actually interested in another organization, but after going to some Sigma events it just seemed like a clear fit. Everything felt very natural and relaxed, as if I was meeting up with old friends. I didn’t have to think twice when I got my bid. I knew Sigma was the right place for me, and I was ready to commit.
What's your favorite thing about being a Sigma?: I love the support that I get from my sisters. The trust that you build, particularly with your pledge class, cannot be replaced. The small things are amazing too. I just enjoy all the moments I’m able to laugh to the point of tears with my sisters. I’m so grateful for Sigma for connecting me with all these amazing women. It definitely becomes a second family. They drive you crazy sometimes, but you love them anyway.

Why did you pledge Sigma?: Prior to attending college, I never saw the merit to Greek Life. I saw it as a way to just have a set friend group, but I decided to put my bias aside and try to learn about the ins and outs of the organization. I can't say how wrong I was in assuming that just because Sigma is a social sorority it meant that it was a group of girls who just hung out with one another (although a bunch of that happens too)! I found out about the various community service outreach opportunities and a strong emphasis on activism within the sorority that I was so attracted to.
What's your favorite thing about being a Sigma?: Probably just making these girls laugh would have to be my favorite thing. Although I can do that with any set of people, laughter is the best medicine and I'm healing the people who I care about most. These women deserve every ounce of happiness and laughter.

Why did you pledge Sigma?: I realized that so many people come and go in college. People transfer, study abroad, move off campus.
